GOD AND JESUS ARE NOT WHITE…

IMG_20151117_085840God is not and old white man with a snow white beard, nor is his son the blond haired, blue eyed, white skinned dude the western-white-world has been passing off as Jesus!  However, I do understand why the traditional imagery of God and Jesus has been presented as such for almost 1000yrs years.   Although white people are the minority in the world they control the power, resources and benefits of our planet.  If white people, or should I say white men control the earth it would make since that the God that made it look just like them, white.

A Letter to the #BlackLivesMatter movement

I am speaking to this new generation of black social activist that were birth into the movement on that tragic day in Ferguson, Mo.  To you young, gifted and unapologetically black men and women who have responded to the clarion call of duty to the front lines of social justice. Understand this.  You are the hope of the future.  The flame of freedom and social justice ignited centuries ago by slaves, who through prophetic insight foresaw deliverance from their slave masters whips and plantations.  That very flame of freedom and justice has made its way through our American experience shining brighter that any burning cross.  That flame has been carried by each generation of black man and women that were courageous enough to rise up and lay hold of the vision for their generation.  So, the struggle continues and that flame is now in your collective hands.

The Creator of the universe has ordained and equipped you with gifts, talents and abilities to gracefully carry the mantle of social justice in your generation.  As a result of you growing up under the oppressive hand of this white supremacist culture you have developed an inner fortitude that is necessary to carry this mantle and carry it you must!  For the little black girls and boys who will come after you, knowing that one day they too may be targeted.  You must carry the flame of freedom for your sisters and brothers, for your aunts and uncles and younger cousins that they may have the chance to live free from oppression.  You must represent for those who have carried it before you and those that will come after.  Most of all, you must carry the flame of social justice and freedom to satisfy the spirit that is alive in you because if you don’t, you won’t have no peace!

Understand this, you are not called be Malcom, Stokley, Martin, Rosa, Angela, Rev. Al, Jessie or any other predecessor.  They appeared in their season and have and/or are fulfilling their destinies.  You are called for this season, with a skill set that has been developed and designed for now.  So no, you are not them, nor could they have been you.  However, you must recognize their contributions, acknowledge their accomplishments and humbly assess their input realizing that you are following in their footsteps.  Remembering that as the struggle continues one day you will be the, “old generation”.

Never forget that success is not in monetary gain, or induvial fame.  It isn’t found in overcoming the obstacles just to allow blacks to access the trappings that whites enjoy.  If that has been our desire all along, then our motivation has been nothing more than envy.  Which would make us a people without true purpose.  Yet, some of your colleagues will be seduced away by money and fame.  It has happened in the past and continues till this very day.  However, your hearts must be true to the cause, motives are to remain pure and focus clear, that you may overcome the obstacles that will confront you on the way to destiny.

In closing, the people are waiting for you.  The people who have been hoping and praying for a new day are looking to you.  We are not waiting on the old generation, we are not waiting on black politicians, rich black folks, famous black people, black celebrities, entertainers, or athletes.  They are all waiting on you, to articulate the vision and lead.  My young brothers and sisters it is not enough to just be angry, shout, protest and disrupt.  You MUST organize and lead us!  All the resources that you will ever need can be found in all the above mentioned groups.  #BlackLivesMatter should be more than just a hashtag, protest slogan, or movement.  Black lives matter should become this generation’s national organization.  O.k. young people make it happen!!!

Donald Sterling, Cliven Bundy and the White Supremacist culture

The question becomes, are black people using the Donald Sterling fiasco and the other racist outburst as a teaching moment? Or are we operating in the new black mentality that says, “if it aint happen to me then it aint happen at all.” Are we just venting anger and opinion? Parents, leaders, teachers, clergy, coaches what information are we giving the next generation? What are you telling the youth to help them deal with the number one issue of our day? Are we preparing them for the challenges they will face. Will they have the tools to navigate their way though the socio-economic obstacles of institutionalized racism? I just hope we are not passing on to them our anger, hate, fear and indecisiveness.

We don’t need to demand that racist recognize our humanity, but our humanity demands that we recognize our excellence. We are not what the Right Wing narrative says about us. We are more then the images we see on “Rachet T.V.” We are not out here just to, “do it for the Vine.” Yes, we have issues and problems as a people, but know that we have had “full rights” in this country for just 44 years. Just look around and see, we are everywhere! We can do everything and the deck has been stacked against us for hundreds of years. Do not be deceived by what they show or say to us. If you look deep enough and you will see their fear and desperation because they are losing complete power and control.

This is why we must educate our youth, giving them all the information we can. They need to know that they have options. they need to know that there are young people just like them facing the same issues they are and gettin’ it poppin’! Our children need to know that they can still dream and have to ability to make those dreams come true. It begins with the adults. The youth see how we get all emotional when something tragic happens. They see and hear us talk all the good and right stuff but after the emotion subsides we do nothing. Now they don’t believe in us, don’t trust us to do what we proclaim. They know we are all talk. Until that changes we can’t really lead and they definitely won’t follow. The worst thing that can happen to a black man is to be socially emasculated in front of his son and or daughter and he can’t do anything about it.

“We the White People” and the Audacity of Hate.

Image

I can’t believe the ignorance of uppity Black folks who believe that they have risen above race and racism.   History shows us that socioeconomic mobility does not shield a black person from racism.  It may cause one to look good in the eyes of their fellow Negroes, but when it comes to white people you always will remain a ni66a.  Of course they won’t say this to your face unless you really piss them off, but you better believe this is who you are to them.  Now I don’t want to paint all white people as racist, but all white people do benefit from white skin privilege.  From the moment those Europeans stepped off the Mayflower white supremacist ideology has been the foundation which this country has been built upon.  White Supremacy is an historically based, institutionally perpetuated system of exploitation and oppression of continents, nations, and peoples of color by white people for the purpose of maintaining and defending a system of wealth, power, and privilege.

Of course the history of Amercia has been white washed leading people to believe we have a glorious past.  When truthfully, it really is a bloody, murderous one from the very beginning.  From the extermination of the native americans who where here before whites, to the three hundred years of the slave trade.  The word “slavery” cannot do justice to the horrific experience that Africans and then African Americans have suffered at the hands of white people.  Starting from slavery, Jim Crow then segregation, all the way through the civil rights movement.  Black people have been catching hell in this wonderful country from the beginning.

Husbands, brothers, uncles and cousins were murdered or hung.  Women who were wives, sisters, aunts, nieces were rape, and their homes were set on fire.  These tragedies continue till this very day.  You have white supremacist in the media, politics, as well as some well intended black folks who try to pawn off on us how if blacks get their lives together things will get better.  Pull up your pants, speak correctly, stop having babies out of wed-lock, get an education and make yourself respectable they all say.  Well what is not respectable about black folks working all week and going to church on sunday, yet, being respectable didn’t stop those racist from blowing up that church!  Jonathan Ferrall did every thing right, went to college at Florida, graduated, got a good white collar job, then he had a car accident.  Injured and seeking out help, but when the police finally arrive the white cop shoots him ten times killing him right on the spot.

The President of the United States the highest office in the land, yet people like Donald Trump and the “birthers” still try to demand that the President “show his papers”.  Just as white folks would demand a slave to show papers.  Richard Sherman a Stanford graduate coming off the biggest victory of his NFL career.  Then 25.22 seconds later, on social media he is called a ni66er, thug, jungle monkey, ape and gorilla. Dead span .com compiled over 10.000 racial slurs that were directed towards Sherman. I can go on but lets switch it up to Economic racism.

The unemployment rate for black people has always been double that of white people.  In1961 a law was passed that said an employer could not discriminate according to race or color… in the hiring process.  Why? Because employers refused to hire blacks.  Back then there was no rap music, or sagging pants or even dread locks.  There is no other excuse for that but racism. Just three days ago, the Republican led congress passed a farm bill that cut billions in food stamps and slashed the heating program that assisted poor people in heating there homes in the winter.  Now poor people are faced with the choice of eat or heat your home.   What “Self” respecting black person with a straight face can say they support the Republican party?  Especially since it’s Republican policies contribute to the economic oppression so many black poor people suffer from today.

In the educational system you see before your very eyes the discrimination black students suffer when it comes to class room size, the lack of learning materials. or the rising cost of college tuition.  If you look closely you will notice in all the states that are Republican controlled they have private prisons industries, so we now have what is called school to prison pipeline.  What would have gotten a student sent to the office or detention in the past, is now being use to introduce black youth to the criminal justice system.  It is well documented that sentencing for blacks are harsher then it is for whites.  Although the research show that whites sell and use drugs,  just as much as blacks but receive lighter and lesser sentencing.  The glaring disparity is so bad that the Attorney General is actively attacking the discrimination in sentencing laws.

The Black community has serious problems, but history, sociology and real life shows us that all the problems we see in our communities finds it’s roots in systematic racism.  You can’t treat a person like an animal then demand that he act like a human.  What is worse then white supremacy are the Negroes who say they want to help and care about black people, but support the very political party that is actively trying to take way the rights the were earned by the blood, sweat and tears of black folks.  The civil rights movement gave us the right to vote.  Today the Right wing of the goverment are using all types of voter suppression tricks to try and stop black people from voting.   And the Republicans are also recruiting black people as operatives that try to convince black folks to become Republican!  Just as the good slaves were allowed to work in the big house and get the perks that go along with it. The good Negroes who adhere to and promote white supremacy receive those same “big house” perks as long as they do the masters bidding.

Black people really don’t hate white people we accept them in every aspect of our culture.  As a matter of fact black people love to see white folks get down.  Even though we know they are gonna take what we created and present it to there culture taking credit for it and then receive all the acclaim that is denied us.  They have appropriated our culture numerous times which shows our own acceptance and tolerance.   If Black people do hate whites, thats all that it is, because black people have no social, economic, or institutional power to challenge no less change white supremacy.

Truth be told It is easier to blame black people for their problems in doing so white supremacists ideology continues to flourish.  I am reminded of a scene from the movie Roots where a slave didn’t want to be free she said, “I’s got a roof, decent clothes and food to eat, dats all i want, don’t want no freedom.”  What does a man have if he gains the whole world but is denied his own humanity?  In the words of Melissa Harris-Perry, “the struggle continues.”

Of course the history of Amercia has been white washed leading people to believe that we have a glorious past.  When truthfully it really is a bloody, murderous one from the beginning.  From the extermination of the native americans who where here before whites.  Not to mention the three hundred years of the slave trade.  The word “slavery” cannot do justice to the horrific experience that Africans and then African Americans have suffered at the hands of white people.  What about Jim Crow then segregation all the way through the civil rights movement.  Black people have been catching hell in this wonderful country from the beginning.

Husbands, brothers, uncles and cousins were murder or hang.  Women who were wives, sisters, aunts, nieces were rape, houses set on fire.  These tragedies continue till this very day.  Yeah, you have white supremacist type in the media, and in politics, as well as some well intended black folks that try to pawn off on us how if blacks get their lives together things will get better.  Pull up your pants, speak correctly, stop having babies out of wed-lock, get an education and make yourself respectable they all say.  Well what is not respectable about black folks working all week and going to church on sunday, yet, being respectable didn’t stop those racist from blowing up that church!  Jonathan Ferrall did every thing right went to college at Florida, graduated, got a good white collar job, but got into a car accident.  Injured and trying to get help, but when the police finally arrive the white cop shoots him ten times killing him right on the spot.

In the educational system you see before your very eyes the discrimination black students suffer when it comes to class room size, the lack or learning materials. or the rising cost of college tuition.  If you look closely you will notice in all the states that are Republican controlled they have private prisons industries, so we now have school to prison pipeline.  What would have gotten a student sent to the office or detention in the past, is now being use to introduce black youth to the criminal justice system.  That those beds which have already been sold remain full to capacity.

The Black community has serious problems, but history, sociology and real life shows us that all the problems we see in our communities are the result of systematic racism.  You can’t treat a person like an animal then demand that he act like a human.  What is even worse then white supremacy are Negroes who say they want to help black people, but support the very political party that are trying to take way the very rights the were earned by the blood sweat and tears of black folks.  martin Luther King died so that we have the right to vote.  Now the Republicans are trying all type of voter suppression tricks to try and stop black people from voting.   Now the republicans are using black people as operatives to try to turn black folks Republican.  Just as the good slaves were allowed to work in the big house and get the perks that go along with it. The good Negroes who adhere to and promote white supremacy receive those same “big house” perks as long as they do the maters bidding.  But don’t fool yourself, you will still be classified as a ni66a.  And if you don’t produce the results your behind is back in the fields with the rest of the ni66ers.

When Tiger Woods first hit the golf course he was called every name in the book, so much so he tried to downplay his blackness.  Venus and Serena were called much worse things than a bitch and a hoe.
